Learn how gentle yoga practices, taught by experienced teacher Akash Patavardhan, can help you manage stress, restore balance, and reconnect with yourself – no matter your age or fitness level.
Life can feel overwhelming at times. Deadlines, responsibilities, constant notifications – it all adds up. Your body holds the tension, your mind races, and restful sleep becomes a distant memory. But there is a gentle, time-tested way to soften that stress. Yoga, practiced with patience and awareness, can be your anchor.
I’m Akash Patavardhan, a yoga teacher for all ages. I have practiced yoga since childhood and have been teaching professionally for the past 12 years. My online classes are designed to make traditional yoga approachable for children, adults, and older practitioners alike. No competition. No pressure. Just clear guidance, patient progression, and respect for your own pace.
Stress is not just a feeling – it is a physical response. When you perceive a threat, your nervous system activates the 'fight-or-flight' mode. Your heart rate rises, your muscles tense, and your breathing becomes shallow. This response is helpful in short bursts, but when it continues day after day, it wears you down.
Yoga works with your nervous system to shift from 'fight-or-flight' to 'rest-and-digest'. This is not about forcing relaxation. It is about creating the conditions for your body to naturally let go.
Modern life often keeps us in a state of high alert. Yoga offers a counterbalance. Through mindful movement, breath awareness, and steady practice, you can gently train your nervous system to become more resilient.
Here are the key ways yoga helps manage stress:
Your breath is always with you, and it is one of the most powerful tools for managing stress. In my classes, we begin with simple breath awareness. You don’t need to change anything at first – just notice the natural flow of your inhale and exhale.
Then we explore techniques like slow exhale breathing. When you extend your exhale slightly longer than your inhale, you activate the vagus nerve, which helps calm the heart rate and lower blood pressure.
One simple practice you can try right now: Sit comfortably. Inhale for a count of four. Exhale for a count of six. Repeat five times. Notice how your shoulders drop and your mind quiets.
Stress lives in the body. You might feel it as a knot between your shoulder blades, a tight jaw, or a clenched fist. Yoga offers gentle, deliberate movements to release that holding.
In my online sessions, I guide you through poses that are accessible regardless of age or flexibility. We move slowly, paying attention to sensation. For example:
We never push into pain. The goal is not to achieve a perfect shape, but to feel more at ease in your own body.
You don’t need to practice for an hour every day to see benefits. Even ten minutes of mindful movement and breath work can make a difference. Consistency matters more than duration.
I encourage my students to start with two or three short sessions per week. Over time, you will notice that you respond to stress differently. You might pause before reacting, take a deep breath, or simply remember that you have a choice.
Remember: this is not about performance. It is about connection. Connecting with your breath, your body, and your inner calm.
Yoga is generally safe for most people, but it is always wise to listen to your body. If you have any medical conditions, injuries, or are pregnant, please consult your healthcare provider before starting a new practice. In my classes, I offer modifications and encourage you to rest whenever you need to. Never push into pain or discomfort.
Stress does not have to run your life. With the right guidance and a gentle approach, you can find your way back to balance. I invite you to explore my online yoga classes – designed for all ages, all levels, and all bodies.
If you are ready to take the first step, reach out and book a session. Together, we can create a practice that supports your well-being, one breath at a time.
